Bid A Bug Mission Statement:
The people who appreciate bugs as pets are in the best position to contribute to
their preservation. It is our responsibility and obligation as hobbyists to
protect what we love. Through participation with Bidabug.org, you can contribute
to the economics of our hobby, as well as the conservation of our pets in their
natural habitats.
As we launch the first charitable bug auction in the
United States, we do so in partnership with the American Tarantula Society, with
66% of fees collected through this site being donated directly to their
wonderful organization. It is our mutual hope that enough hobbyists, dealers and
buyers will participate through this site to “make a difference”. One long term
collective goal is to raise money to help fund a research project which would
provide distinction between various tarantula species in the United States. A
necessary first step in conserving life on this planet is “knowing what is here,
right now”! As the 2007 ATS conference ends we will be discussing allocating
funds to study the causes of death in captive pet bugs. As time goes on the
beneficiary of this auction will rotate to include other bug-related
organizations that do “good things” for bugs. The ATS will be a regular,
recurring beneficiary as we acknowledge that the tarantula sector of our
community is the most well-represented in terms of participating hobbyists.
Now, there are legitimate concerns that an auction
bidding system will dilute the quality of animals being produced and sold within
the market. Let not one bad apple spoil the whole bunch! We have the freedom and
the obligation to conduct our transactions. Seller Feedback is one deterrent to
neglectful husbandry. As buyers we all retain the right to NOT make a purchase
from a seller with a negative reputation. Nor will the sales of large
quantities of wild caught specimens be tolerated through this website.
Purchases of “captive bred” (often denoted as “CB”) stock are considered
eco-friendly and your support of breeders who sell CB stock is also supportive
to our collective goals.
We implore all buyers and sellers to interact with
respect and honesty: to themselves, to each other, in the care of their animals
and their preparation for shipment, and with regards to the laws governing their
country and state. Neither Bidabug.org, nor its parent company
BugsInCyberspace.com, nor myself, Peter Clausen, will be held liable for
breaches of any laws. Company shall not be liable for any damages whatsoever,
including special, indirect, consequential or incidental damages, or damages for
lost profits, loss of revenue, or loss of use, arising out of or related to this
web site or the information contained in it, whether such damages arise in
contract, negligence, tort, under statute, in equity, at law, or otherwise, even
if company has been advised of the possibility of such damages. Additionally, it
is the responsibility of the seller and buyer to ensure that all applicable laws
and regulations are considered before proceeding with transactions through this
website. Bidabug.com will follow up on all complaints to the extent and
satisfaction of our conscience and, if deemed necessary, exercise our reserved
right to exclude offenders from future participation in our community of
websites.
Payment & Conduct:
It is our wish that all participants will make their payments in a timely manner
and that all will conduct themselves professionally.
Privacy:
We will not sell your contact information or even share it with any third
parties. We respect your privacy and do not want to comprise your continued
participation through our website and in our mutual cause.
As consumers, we have the power to decide which suppliers,
manufacturers and organizations are successful. We can leverage our power as
consumers to entice these companies to contribute towards our common goals.
Thank you for participating in our goal to make a
difference!
